Sheep Hill Herbs

"I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep."
-John 10:11
About Sheep Hill Herbs
Jenel, Herbalist (20 + years), owner of Sheep Hill Herbs - an herbal, plant-based business in Reading Pennsylvania. I am a daughter of the most HIGH GOD. Saved and bought by the blood of Jesus. My approach to healing is- God is Jehovah-Rapha. The Lord is Healer. He brings about healing. All healing comes from Him, and through Him, demonstrated by Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit. After a life-changing health scare, resulting in surgery, I no longer put Herbs first as the healing tools, but turn to the Word of God, first and foremost. I now see herbs, and essential oils as the lesser tools but assisting in the physical body to recover from all sorts of trauma. My goal is to help people become strong in their faith, and the word of God, as they heal. It is with the renewing of the mind, and being led by the Holy Spirit that we find the path God has for us.
Jenel Schaffer- B.A. Anthropology , Licensed Art Teacher K-12,], B.S. Herbal Medicine (Kingdom University of Herbal Medicine), M.S. Herbal Medicine (Kingdom University of Herbal Medicine), Certified Master Herbalist, Certified Master Aromatherapist, Ordained Whole Medicine & Healing Minister, Certified Spiritual Guide, Licensed member of the Professional Wellness Alliance #13370.
I have made herbal remedies for 2 decades, drank thousands of cups of tea, mixed hundreds of tinctures, and grown many gardens. I have found the deepest healing has come from sitting, listening and working with the plants in meditation. When we are able to sit quietly, we hear the still small voice of God in our hearts. When I was a new believer I relished in the times I could sit with God. I craved them more than any other moments. As the years went by, I lost my way with trials and tribulations. After ending up in the hospital for surgery in 2025- I found my way back to God in the long hours I needed to recover. Those moments alone with God are pure gold.
Psalm 147:3: “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

Young Living Brand Partner:
About 20 years ago, I met a woman at a vegetarian restaurant in Allentown for a class. She was an eccentric lady with a giant book on essential oils, and a kit, of like 1,000 little bottles. I was entranced by the essential oils and the purity of their scent. I signed up with Young Living as a brand partner and received a bottle of peppermint and lavender and a diffuser. I ran my diffuser every day and still use it daily.
I love Young Living essential oils and have used them for my family for 2 decades. I think Lavender is still my absolute favorite oil. In the evening, when I apply it to my feet, and legs, I get incredibly relaxed. It is perfect before bed, and then the scent lingers all the way through the night, keeping me in a restful state.
I have worked with plants from seed, to all sorts of herbal remedies. I've made thousands of extracts and tea formulas. I love a good cup of tea, especially lemon balm or peppermint from the garden. As I have given my life back to Jesus, I have found that the simpler the better. As a daughter of the most High, I feel like Queen Esther when I use my Young Living essential oils. Today though, I am more in the word of God than in the apothecary. I am more conscious of what I put on my body, and the words coming out of my mouth, than taking dozens of capsules and tinctures.
Young Living oils help me to focus my concentration and pray more effectively. They assist with relaxation and memory. I feel like I am slowing my pace for time with the Lord, then speeding up my pace by taking energizing herbs. Before I needed surgery, I was so busy. I never stopped. I took a lot of energizing herbs to help me get through the day. My body was very stressed. When I went to the hospital for an emergency bowel obstruction, I took my Young Living Joy and Young Living Orange oil. Those two oils helped keep me calm, along with heaping prayers and scripture. I must say, I needed more than anything, the word of God to get me through 8 days in the hospital, but the essential oils were such a blessing. People would comment on how good my room smelled. I felt more normal, because I always smelled of oranges and roses. I know they helped me remain more relaxed during a stressful event.
In the hospital God spoke to me about how I had been working as an Herbalist all these years. I had been putting herbs first, and not Him. He showed me that he is the healer, and his grace, mercy and loving-kindness is what really heals us.
If I were to make a priority list of what we need as believers, I would include the following. Not necessarily in this order.
1. Love- we need Love of the Father, and the ability to receive it. We need love shed abroad in our hearts and love of other believers. The Love of Jesus, who died for us on the Cross as a covering for our sins. The Father did not even spare his own son but let him die a terrible death for us to be redeemed.
2. A slower lifestyle- one that allows time with God. That means in the word of God, and in prayer.
3. A renewed mind. This is something I just recently learned. When we come to know Jesus, we often have many strongholds that link us to our past life. We are saved, by grace, not by works, but we do need to do the work of renewing our minds, or we can get lost on the path and led astray.
Matthew 13:
That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake. 2 Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore. 3 Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. 9 Whoever has ears, let them hear.”
4. Company and prayer with other believers daily! This is so important. Again something I have neglected over the years. I have had it at times and seasons, but a few times we moved and then would go long stretches without prayer with believers and would get so very lost. In fact the worst time for me and maybe some of you, was after COVID. We had just started attending a wonderful small church, and my children were baptized. I was getting to know people. When COVID came we stopped going to church, and it took us 4 years to return! That was the longest I wandered off the path of God, and the most destruction occurred in my thought life.
James 5:16:
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
5. A good night's sleep. For me, I need about 8 unbroken hours of sleep in the evening to feel rested and refreshed.
6. Well balanced meals. If you do not know what a balanced diet is, I suggest going to a nutritionist to develop a solid menu plan. It takes a while to develop new eating habits.
7. Clean and healthy water. This is getting more and more difficult to find! We fill our water in 5-gallon containers as reverse osmosis water stations.
8. Tools. This is a broad topic, but tools for the job at hand. If we need to start a fire, we need tools to start a fire. We need wood, and shavings, and matches, a lighter, or a bow starter. We need tools. This also applies to cleaning, or fixing a car, or making meals, or herbs and essential oils for ailments. We need tools for the job at hand.
Many years ago, one of my favorite Young Living oils, was JOY. I think I gravitated towards the scent of Rose, (one of the ingredients). Every breath of this precious oil is so sweet. It did make my heart feel lighter and more joyful. I shared this with a class I was teaching, and I was corrected by a friend, that joy only comes from the Lord. I knew what she meant, and yet I did not know. At that time, I did find much joy in things outside of myself, or in pleasing circumstances. I really needed that oil to help my mood, but at that time the joy of the Lord was not my strength.
Recently, I had surgery on my colon; it was a life-saving procedure. I had gone into the hospital in severe pain, thank God for that, because an obstruction was found. I brought Young Living Joy essential oil with me to the hospital. It helped me so much, as a tool along with the word of God. It gave me a sense of feeling normal in a hospital environment. The scent was so sweet and did improve my mood. However, in that 8 day stay, I really found the joy of the Lord. I found the real strength I needed for that event. I relished the word of God. God really impressed upon me, the difference between worshipping Him, and his worshipping His creation (herbs).
I believe we are to be thankful for the tools God gives us, but the bible does say...
Exodus 20:3:
“You shall have no other gods before me.
I still have Joy beside my bedstand. I applied it every day during my healing from surgery. I was very grateful for the tool, and I thanked God for that precious oil and the ability to buy it. Real healing comes down from the Lord, and I see that now.
My life has gone through a complete priority change, and the Lord will forever be placed at the top of my priority list.
Romans 1:16
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.
How my family benefits daily from Young Living essential oils:
1. I am confident with the purity and quality of the oils I am putting on myself and my children.
2. My house smells wonderful, and I get comments wherever I go, especially if I wear Patchouli.
3. I have replaced perfumes, and other synthetic fragrances with the pure essential oils.
